Pastor, don’t be “that” pastor at a wedding

This video of a pastor at a wedding is getting a lot of attention from sites like CNN and Gawker.

Please, pastors, next time don’t be “that” pastor. Do your homework and talk with photographer ahead of time. And, don’t be a jerk about it.

Sorry, Alan, but I have to disagree. For all we know, the pastor may have spoken to the professional photographers, talked about photos at the rehearsal, made an announcement at the service. Even covering all of his bases, the photographers decided to do whatever they wanted to do. Admittedly, he might have been a bit quieter with his admonition, but he was right on.
Years ago, I had a crazy grandma at a baptism. I had made it clear multiple times in advance that photos/videos during the service were not permissible. I said I would stay as long as the family and friends liked after the service to recreate any photos they wanted. Grandma paid no attention. She stood right up at the font, blocking kids from seeing what was going on. She had the lens of the video camera (back in the day when there were video camera and they were BIG) right down over the font. I had to lean over and quietly tell grandma to back off and turn it off or I would stop the baptism. We had an eye to eye showdown for a few seconds and then she backed off.
The sacraments are God’s sacraments. They do not belong to us, or to any industry that has grown up around them.

Amy, there are times when a pastor needs to step in. But, why then? I have no problem with the pastor address folks about the “holy” moment, but this pastor could have done a better job. In your story, it seems that you were able to address grandma with tack.

It wasn’t supposed to be about him either. He ruined their wedding vows and you only have to look at their faces to see it. He is an ass.
