Jon Stewart, You Need Me

Jon Stewart and his Daily Show crew are on to something.  Just as Glenn Beck had his “Restoring Honor” rally in Washington D.C., Steward is holding a “Rally To Restore Sanity.” http://www.rallytorestoresanity.com/ on October 30, 2010.  Just days before the mid-term elections.  Stephen Colbert is holding a counter rally, “March to Keep The Fear Alive” http://www.keepfearalive.com/ on the same day.  This is all very funny and will no doubt draw cheer and jeers from conservatives and liberals.

Clearly a farce on Glenn Beck, Stewart and Colbert are masterminds at political and social comedy, however they are missing one essential element in this rally.  The clergy.  Glenn Beck had his “Black Robe Regiment” with his rally and Jon Stewart needs clergy.  Actually, he needs me.  I propose that Steward build a Black Robe Brigade.  I wrote about Beck’s Christian aspirations and open theism in my Times Union blog post and Stewart needs some clergy support.

So, what can I do for you Jon Stewart?

Well, for one thing, I know clergy… a lot of clergy.  Clergy from the from the Halls of Montezuma, to the shores of Tripoli.  Well, not really.  Most of the clergy that I know are in Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, the South, and some in California. I could bring some heavy weight into the picture.  I know what makes them tick and what gets them energized.  Nothing says energy than a bunch of pastors getting together and standing around!

Second, I’m a self promoter… just like some other people we know.  I have my own blog, a blog on Albany’s Times Union Newspaper website, a book in the works, and a number of Facebook friends.  I really know how to get my name out there so everyone gets tired of hearing about me.

Third, Jon… if I may call you that, I can offer you something that will really ignite your base: lots of Christians who belong to declining mainline churches.  Beck may have a ton of passionate conservative Evangelicals, but I can bring together lots of older, white, burned out, and retired Christians, from all over the country, ready to stand with their walkers at your rally!

Jon and Stephen, give me a call or an email and I’ll be ready and waiting for you to fly me down to D.C., pay my hotel, and pay my expenses to lead the charge!

Perhaps you and Jon could take in a Redskins game…?

Alan, thought of you when watching the Daily Show last night–he realized they are seriously lacking white, Christian men. This could be your opportunity!
