As the nation is still comprehending how a person could walk into a church and kill over 25 people, The First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas is in grief and shock. Another American shooting – the worst in history. In 2015, Dylan Roof walked into a Charleston, SC church and killed nine people. The number of faith-based violence has increased from 22 deaths a year in 1991 to 74 in 2014. As the gun debate heats back up there is another debate stirring in congregations: Do we increase our church security? Do we need to be armed?
Noah staring Russell Crowe has seen success at the box office with the general public but not everyone is happy about the film. Some claim that the Noah story was hijacked and is inaccurate.
True, there are parts of Noah that are inaccurate. These inaccuracies would be the things that Hollywood uses to make the story more entertaining, though these facts do not appear in the Bible. I’ll name a few without giving the movie away:
- Noah is given snake-skin from the serpent in the Garden of Eden.
- Watchers, fallen angels play a role in Noah’s story
- Methuselah, the oldest person in the Bible, appears in the Noah story
- A ruler named Tubal-Cain is the antagonist
- An army wages battle
- Several ploys to kill characters in the story
- Noah experiences recurring dreams
There are many more. If you remember your Bible story about Noah, you know that none of those things are found in the biblical account.
However, it does not matter. It does not matter if Hollywood added or took away facts from the biblical story of Noah. Heresy you say?
For months, rumors went around the internet that a Christian Desperate Housewives show was going to air on ABC. The show was to depict Christians in very unflattering and negative ways. Then, the hype died down, until last Sunday.
‘GCB’ aired premiered and was certainly full of drama… was it Christian drama? Well, you be the judge.
The show was originally named, “Good Christian Bi*ches,” proved to be offensive to some so the series was changed to “Good Christian Belles.” GCB is based on a book with the same ugly title (the B-word word one with seven letters). I’m really looking for the words to describe this show and I cannot find them. So, I’ll use someone who is keyed into Hollywood and who gives a better description:
