Original Post:
Above, is a picture of a guerrilla marketing campaign for Shelters of Saratoga, a ministry that First Baptist Church supports. We just had Shelters of Saratoga at our mission fair and we send groups to serve there. I found this pic on Twitter. This is a great way to get the word out about this ministry and to bring visibility to homelessness in Saratoga County.
A few questions:
- Was this official or done by an individual?
- Chalk or paint?
- Are we going to see more?

New #Palio guerrilla marketing awareness campaign for Shelter… on Twitpic.
UPDATE 1:30 PM: via Twitter: @ps_saratoga 1:39pm via Web
@alanrud It’s a coordinated effort that will be replicated in about a dozen locations downtown to mark Homeless Awareness Week.
Thanks Post Star for the update!
UPDATE: 2:51 PM:
From the Skidmore College website:
Skidmore students will join forces with Shelters of Saratoga to observe National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, Nov. 14-20. Throughout the week Shelters of Saratoga (SOS) will host several events to raise awareness of the homeless and the services that the shelter provides.
Skidmore students are getting involved with these projects through the “Human Behaviors in the Social Environment” course taught by Crystal Moore, associate professor of social work. Students are encouraging people to bring canned goods and basic toiletries to the vigil to donate to SOS as part of a food drive that is currently going on. Anything that could be brought would be very much appreciated!
In addition to promoting the candlelight vigil, students also will assist with another project: a chalk outline of a homeless individual on the sidewalk with a slogan reading, “They are not here because we are, Shelters of Saratoga.” This project has two goals: to alert the community at large about homelessness as well as the importance of the shelter and its services.

Was this official or done by an individual?
It was done by PALIO, ad agency in Saratoga for it’s client Shelters of Saratoga, as the guerilla arm of a larger print ad campaign. Intent was to make some noise and bring attention to the fine job the shelter does, however to continue it needs help. Palio donated all their time work and creative in creating the campaign.
Chalk or paint? Spray is non permanent washable chalk called “CHALK IT”
